Dek: Jeffrey Metellus, associate at Store 2151, Sunrise Fla., jumped on a sales trend in his store and found overwhelming success with the
Verizon LG Prepaid Smartphone.
Why I Chose a Smartphone
I began to notice that our store had a lot of international customers, and these prepaid phones were always a hit with them. I remember one customer who even bought 10 of these in one day. I learned that they were buying them to ship home or send to family members to stay in touch. I didn’t work in electronics but knew this would be a great VPI.
How I Increased Sales
Definitely through communication and placement. I knew the electronics department manager was constantly ordering these phones, so I asked him to order a few extra. I asked if we could set up an end cap in his department near the front where I could help customers there as well. We had to keep ordering more and more; they flew off the shelves once we had this end cap.
My VPI Advice
Look for any item in your store, not just in your department. Anything can be a VPI. You just need to be able to push the item. If it’s not in your department, reach out to and negotiate with other department managers. Let them know you can lend other associates to help stock items. Make a community out of it.
And definitely learn every feature on the VPI Tool on the Sales App. You can set up your VPI for this month, for the next month, and so on. I used the tool to estimate my points, and that gave me a ton of information for my VPI strategy.
